In the mythical tale of Icarus, Icarus flies too close to the sun, singes his wings and dies a horrible death.
The morality play, especially for the Ancient Greeks, was that hubris is dangerous.
No single athlete has flown so high above everyone else and thought himself so untouchable. And ironically, it was his wife's frustration at his philandering that did him in.
And now we enter phase II.
Tiger apologizes
Well not really, he is trying to re-brand himself. The apology to his wife and to his family are private matters. And his apologies to the people who depended on him are also private affairs. This is not an apology. This is a re-brand.
What I find, nauseating, is that he is trying to re-brand himself not to save his marriage (I mean after the stunts he pulled what could save that), but to save his money.
I believe that this country's willingness to forgive, will allow him to climb back up on top. He will never be as unapproachable, perfect, but perhaps in his imperfection he might actually become even bigger.
